Police: Man Drives To Meet Probation Officer In Stolen Walmart Electric Shopping Cart

Albuquerque, N.M. (CBS LAS VEGAS) — An Albuquerque man was arrested after meeting his probation officer in an electric shopping cart he stole from Walmart, according to police.

Michael Johnson, 18, was arrested Monday after he arrived to meet with his probation officer at the Metropolitan Courthouse on an electric shopping cart from Walmart. When asked where he got the cart, Johnson admitted to stealing it from the store on San Mateo and Zuni, according to court documents obtained by KOAT-TV.

Albuquerque police say the cart is worth nearly $2,000 and while Johnson had good intentions, he was ultimately charged with larceny and receiving stolen property.

“What was a funny ride to him, meant someone else that possibly had a legitimate injury or a legitimate handicap was going to have a more difficult time inside the store,” APD Spokesperson Tanner Tixier told KOAT. “It kind of makes you shake…
